Don't understand this English assignment?

"Clustering Assignment

First, pick a topic. Then write down words or phrases associated with this topic. Next, identify them into main or supportive thoughts. Submit all your steps - it should resemble something like this:

Topic = Words or phrases associated with this topic

My list of word words or phrases for main thought

My list of words or phrases for supportive thought"

Could I get an example of what this is supposed to look like? This is my first assignment for the year and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. The assignment is supposed to be turned in tomorrow and I'd appreciate anything that could help.

Thanks!!

Answer :Since this is a English assignment, what better subject than something of a related to English!
You could write about Internet language and internet slang and how this new language words and phrases have changed our everyday conversation.......
Let us twit a bit, what is you email address, have you chat ,why aren't you in facebook, read message in myspace.com and hundreds phrase like these..
I will copy/paste some of slang from Yahoo search for you to see what I am talking about. you could read them yourself. just type internet slang in Yahoo search.....The materials are very well written. You could just copy/paste for your assignment or just memorize Some of the terms and abbreviations used in internet slang appear to derive from fanspeak, the slang of science fiction fandom. A significant portion of computer programmers and users have historically been science fiction readers.

In 1975, Raphael Finkel of Stanford University compiled a collection of hacker slang, the Jargon File, from technical cultures, such as the MIT AI Lab, the Stanford AI Lab (SAIL) and others, of the old ARPANET AI/LISP/PDP-10 communities. Two items on this list in current use as Internet slang are "flame" and "loser". By 1990, the Jargon File had been enriched with examples of smallhand used in talk mode between 2 terminals, (for example, "BTW", "FYI", and "THX") as well as some slang expressions in use on Usenet and new commercial networks like CompuServe (for example, "LOL", "ROTF", and "AFK").

A Computerworld article, discussing the origin of several current web slang terms, cites a still-online FidoNet article from 1989, which displays emoticons in addition to all-caps shortcuts like "LOL", "BRB" and "TYT".

English assignment

English assignment...?

we are doing an assignment on 'an inspector calls' by JB Priestley. what could i write about the scenery, the way the characters are portrayed and the authors intentions?

Answer : Here's what I do in situations like this...I read the assignment carefully, and I underline things I need to pay attention to for my writing assignment. Sometimes I will annotate thoughts in the margins. For instance, if it's talking about the scenery at a particular point and something about it jumps out at you, underline it. If a character says or does something that emphasizes how they are portrayed, underline it. If you feel that the author is trying to make a point in his or her writing, underline it. Then take what you underlined, and write your thoughts about it. It's really that simple.

Help with English assignment?

I'm supposed to do an assignment or English where on one side of the paper put words or pictures about what you think people think about you, and on the other side put words or pictures about what you think about yourself. i don't understand. can anybody help me? i wouldn't know or even try to think about how everyone else sees me.

Answer:  It's common for teenagers to feel misunderstood. In addition, they also tend to think that other people don't know "the REAL me."

Your teacher is picking up on this common trait of teenagers to give you an assignment with lots of material you can use without running out of ideas.

For example, you might believe that others see you as calm and poised, but they don't realize that inside you sometimes feel shy and unsure of yourself.

Or you might think that others see you as aloof and reserved, but they don't know that inside you are feeling friendly and sociable.

They may think you get your good grades because you are "just smart that way," but you're the only one who knows how much you study.

Stuff like that is what the teacher is looking for.

I think you should try to keep it light and generic for all teens -- (sometimes a little shy or unsure of oneself, friendly, managing schoolwork, sibling problems, hobbies and sports, ambitions for a future career, etc)

You should probably choose not to reveal any important secrets in this assignment. If you do have important secrets that you need to tell someone about, think sensibly about who that person should be. An English homework assignment is not an appropriate place for that.

Profanity in an english assignment?

all in good context, where would you say I should draw the line in terms of profanity in my ninth-grade english assignment? would my teacher be offended/dock me marks if the word 'whore' was used (in good context) in my short story?
Answer:  Profanity is usually more acceptable in English assignments over any other types of schoolwork, simply because works like short stories rely completely on expression.
For something as subjective as a short story, I'm sure your teacher won't mind.
Just go by common sense. If your teacher's really uptight and all that, maybe you should think twice about it. But most English teachers are chill.

It usually seems that profanity is more easily accepted in works of literature if they are not used by the narrator, but rather by a character in the story.
If one of your characters uses (in good context, I'm sure) the word "whore," you are not necessarily condoning the use of profanity, nor are you using it yourself.

If the narrator were to describe someone as a whore, on the other hand, it could be considered more offensive. Although still perfectly acceptable in many scenarios.

Dock marks? That would be one bad hell of a teacher to do that. Probably just a stern conversation, if anything. But I'm thinking not.

Help in english assignment question?!?

So i have an assignment which is about personal experience and science. The question is . Without recognizing our own personal experience and that of others don’t we somehow risk devolving into a kind of bland and meaningless form of communication in which we not really know and potentially accept others as individuals?
I dont really understand what is meant by that. Or what do we have to write about. Can someone please explain it to me and also give me an example.
Answer:  I've been an English teacher for 14 years, and that is about the most poorly worded writing prompt I've seen. Did you teacher write it just like that, or is this a paraphrase?

The best I can figure, the question (it's actually not a question because there is only one answer) is stating that if you never think about ourselves (intra-personal) or about others (inter-personal), then we can never truly communicate because all speaking and writing will be on the surface. Surface communication can be between any two people. Deep communication is special to the two people speaking.

The trick for you is to find examples to illustrate this idea. Ideally, you would find examples related to the class. Examples from your own life would be good, especially for the introduction and conclusion.

Mathematics Assignment
Mathematics Assignment

Assuming that this is an assignment you'll more than likely need written responses. Here's what you could write for Q1:

Upon investigation for how to work out the last two digit numbers in the result of 91^92, i first recognised when multiplying 91 continuous times I would get the following results:

91 x 91 = 8281 ;^2
8281 x 91 = 753571 ;^3
753571 x 91 = 68574961 ;^4

Upon these results it can be safe to say that the final number will always result in 1, and that the second digit will continue to decrease at the rate of -1 every time the following number is multiplied by 91. Further investigation also proved that when the second to last number reached 0 it would return to 9 when multiplied again, as shown:

38941611811810745401 x 91 = 3543686674874777831491

I also noticed that the second to last number would appear every time 91 was multiplied by itself for the 10th consecutive time.
For example 12th time = 8, 22nd time = 8 etc

Therefore continuing with these findings it can be assumed that for the result of 91^92 the final two digits will be 8 and 1.

You may want to change this a bit depending on how you yourself want to respond to the question. But for what its worth I've confirmed it myself and this IS the correct answer.
I hope this helps you and I'm sorry that I can't help with the remaining questions :( but 2 and 3 certainly sound like you are required to use a combination of some sort
Good Luck with your assignment :)
